The VG30DE/TTs run a single Knock Sensor, the sensor in located in the valley of the block, underneath the lower intake plenum and is the important ‘EAR’ on the block, listening patiently for dreaded detonation & retarding the timing &/or triggering safety boost setting.
The Sensor & Wiring receive a immense amount of heat cycling and after 35+years are usually defective & dysfunctional, triggering an ECU ‘Code 55’ contributing to poor engine operations.
It is always good practice to replace when access is granted either with engine removal or lower intake manifold resealing.
